BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo cross country team is competing close to home on Saturday afternoon, set to participate in the Canisius Alumni Classic at Delaware Park in North Buffalo at 12pm.
The meet in Buffalo this week marks the Bulls' fifth competition of the season, with the program's next meet being Mid-American Conference Championships. The Buffalo men and women will utilize the local competition to gear up for conference championships, hosted by Ball State on November 2nd.
On the men's side, the Bulls are looking to uphold their regional ranking, earning the 13th spot in the northeast a week ago. The Buffalo men joined the rankings following a strong weekend at Lehigh University's Paul Short Invitational, finishing 21st of 44 teams and placing ahead of several ranked teams including UMBC, Bucknell, Central Connecticut, Monmouth and Rutgers.
The Bulls also had three runners inside their top five finishers who ran personal best times. Noah Brightman (74th, 24:35.9) and Evan Hilbert (75th, 24:36.4) both had collegiate 8k personal records while finishing inside the top 75 runners in the field of 366 student-athletes. Sophomore Gabriel Cornfield rounded out the Buffalo top-five with a personal record of his own (213th, 25:30.4).
The Buffalo women had a strong finish in the women's brown 6k at the Paul Short Invitational, finishing 11th of 35 teams. The Bulls finished two spots ahead of Canisius, the only time the two programs have raced among each other this season.
Lacey Danilovitz headlined the Buffalo women, finishing 23rd with a new personal best time of 22:10.1 in the field of 286 runners. Danilovitz has been the Bulls' top finisher in all three races she's competed in this season. Megan Smith rounded out the Buffalo top five with a personal best 6k time of 23:23.2.
