Bulls Host Ohio to Begin Four Game Home Stand

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (12-2, 2-0 MAC) will host the Ohio Bobcats (7-8, 2-1 MAC) in their MAC home opener on Friday evening. The series will continue to Saturday with the match starting at 4 p.m.
The Bulls are off to a 2-0 start in MAC play for just the fourth time in program history. The three previous times came in 2014, 2017, and 2021. Historically, the Bobcats have dominated the series as they hold a 43-7 overall record against the Bulls. Last season, UB and Ohio split the regular season matchups, but the Bulls won the MAC Tournament quarterfinals match in a 3-1 decision. In just MAC play, Ohio leads 41-6. Head Coach Scott Smith is 2-7 (.222) against the Bobcats during his tenure at Buffalo.
The Bulls are coming off a series sweep of the Kent State Golden Flashes last weekend. The Bulls won Friday's match with a 3-0 decision and won a thrilling 3-2 match on Saturday. UB leads all MAC programs with seven 3-0 wins on the season. Western Michigan is just behind with six.
Mandy Leigh's performance in Kent, Ohio led to her being named MAC East Setter of the Week for a third time this season. She had double-doubles in both matches, as she is up to nine on the season. M. Leigh finished with 75 of the Bulls' 93 assists. She averaged 9.38 assists per set while adding five kills, two service aces, 24 digs, three blocks, and 8.5 points. She has earned the second most weekly honors in program history behind Kelly Svoboda (2010-14) who the record at holds 10. The Bulls have taken home at least one weekly award over the last four weeks.
On the season, the Bulls are 8-1 when two players have 10 or more kills in a match. The only loss came on the road at Xavier in five sets. There have been 14 double-doubles on the year by the Bulls. Mandy Leigh leads the team with nine, followed by Manoela Forlin (2), Katrin Trebichavska (2), and Maurine Calande (1).
The Bulls have the top-two hitters in the Mid-American Conference with Abby Leigh and Courtney Okwara. A. Leigh is 37th in the nation and second in the MAC with a hitting percentage of .415. Okwara checks in as the MAC leader in hitting percentage at .506. 2023 three-time MAC East Setter of the Week Mandy Leigh is 109th in the NCAA (third in the MAC) averaging 9.24 assists per set. Katrin Trebichavska has 31 service aces on the season, good for sixth in the country and second in the MAC. Her 0.67 aces per set is fourth in the NCAA and leads all MAC players. As a team, they're one of the best offenses and defenses in the country. The Bulls have a .270 hitting percentage, which is 29th in the country. They limit their opposition to just a .167 hitting percentage, good for 51st in the country. Both marks are first in the MAC.
