Bulls Drop First Home Match of the Season

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (12-3, 2-1 MAC) dropped their Friday night showdown against the Ohio Bobcats (8-8, 3-1 MAC), 3-0.
UB entered the match 8-1 when two Bulls had at least 10 kills each. Despite Katrin Trebichavska and Emma Gielas each having 12 kills on the evening, it wasn't enough to topple the Ohio Bobcats. The Bobcats edged the Bulls in hitting percentage, .271 to .203. Ohio had 46 kills to UB's 43, but the Bulls struggled as they finished with 31 errors. The Bobcats finished with 23.
Mandy Leigh had a match-high 38 assists on the night with her sister Abby Leigh having a match-high six blocks.
The Bulls and Bobcats were in a tight first set as there were 11 ties. At the midway point, Ohio started to pull away from UB. The Bobcats led 20-15, the largest lead in the set, before the Bulls stormed back to tie it at 21. With the Bobcats within reach of set point, UB called their final timeout. Out of the timeout, Gielas got a kill to make it 24-23. The comeback was too little too late as the Bobcats secured the set one victory, 25-23. UB had 18 kills to Ohio's 13, but the Bulls had 13 total errors.
The Bobcats led wire to wire in the second set. Their lead reached seven at 10-3 as the Bulls struggled to get the offense in a rhythm. Manoela Forlin helped the Bulls get within three after two kills, but the separation started to grow after an Ohio 4-0 run. The Bobcats outhit the Bulls, .344 to .091 as they won the set, 25-18.
UB gave Ohio a run for their money in the third set. The Bulls got off to a 2-0 lead before Ohio went on a 4-0 run to take a 4-2 lead. UB's offense started clicking as they had a 5-0 run to take a 14-12 lead. The Bulls kept their lead until the Bobcats tied the set at 23. Gielas gave the Bulls a chance to win the set after a kill to take a 24-23 lead. They couldn't close the deal as Ohio won, 27-25.
The Bulls are back in action against the Ohio Bobcats at 4 p.m. to finish their weekend festivities.
