Courtney Okwara Named MAC East Offensive Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced their weekly volleyball honors on Monday afternoon. Courtney Okwara was named the MAC East Offensive Player of the Week. This marked the Bulls' fourth MAC player of the week win and third consecutive week a Bull took home a weekly honor this season.

As a team, the Bulls had a great weekend at the Red Storm Invitational as they finished second out of five teams with a 2-1 record. After dropping their first match to No. 16 Arkansas, the Bulls went 2-0 on Saturday with a straight set win over Columbia and a 3-1 win over St. John's. Okwara and Maria Futey earned All-Tournament honors.

Okwara had a team-high hitting percentage of .484 on her way to finish with 17 kills. The well-balanced offensive attack by UB led to four players to have at least 22.0 points. Okwara finished with nine total blocks and 22.0 points.

This marks Okwara's first weekly honor in her career.

The Bulls are back in action on Friday, Sept. 22 as the team will travel to Kent, Ohio for the first weekend of MACtion.
