BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (10-25, 4-7 MAC) dropped both games in Wednesday's doubleheader to the Akron Zips (22-15, 10-7 MAC) at Nan Harvey Field.
Akron got on the board early in game one of the day. After just three innings of action, the Zips led 6-0. In the top of the fifth inning, they padded their lead to make it a 9-0 ballgame.
The Bulls struggled to put the ball in play as Akron was pitching a perfect game into the fourth inning until an Abbey Nagel walk. The Bulls were no-hit into the fifth inning until Julia Tarantino hit a two-run home run. Mia Mitchell got in on the action as she also hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning. It was too little too late as Akron won, 9-4.
In game two, the Zips didn't hesitate to get on the board right away. They led 2-0 after the first inning. There was a glimmer of hope for the Bulls as Lyla Ambrose went yard for her first career home run. With Akron leading 2-1 headed into the top of the sixth, the Zips answered. They scored another two runs on a sacrifice fly and a single to left. The Zips went on to score another run in the seventh, taking the contest 5-1.
The Bulls will travel to Muncie, Ind. for a three-game series against the Ball State Cardinals on Saturday and Sunday.
