The Offense Comes Alive in 8-4 Win Over Bowling Green

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (8-19, 2-1 MAC) won game one of the series against the Bowling Green Falcons (8-22, 1-9 MAC) on Saturday afternoon, 8-4.

The Bulls did not hesitate to score as Madison Fernimen had an RBI double in the first inning. Lily Lauck scored all the way from first base.

The Falcons took the lead in the bottom of the second with two runs scoring on an RBI single past first base. With the Falcons up 2-1 in the third inning, Sara Kelly hit her second home run of the season to retake the lead. Lauck scored her second run of the game giving Buffalo a 3-2 lead.

Madison Fernimen got in on the fun as she hit a home run of her own, extending Buffalo's lead to 4-2. The game then went into a two-hour weather delay. That did not cool down the Bulls as they scored four more runs in the inning. Mia Mitchell had a sacrifice fly that allowed Kelly to score. Avelyn Van Heyst then doubled to fight as Tianna Williams touched home. Abbey Nagel doubled to left field as Van Heyst rounded the bases. Alexis Lucyshyn helped her cause, hitting a double scoring Nagel.

Bowling Green tried to comeback with a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Their efforts came up short.

Lucyshyn went the distance despite the lengthy delay. She allowed four earned runs, six hits, and struck out 12.

Game two will be continued at the top of the third inning tomorrow at noon with game three to follow. The games will be played at the Medaille Sports Complex.
