Bulls Sweep Bowling Green to Improve to 4-1 in MAC Play

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (10-19, 4-1 MAC) swept the Bowling Green Falcons (8-24, 1-11 MAC) with a pair of wins on Sunday afternoon.
The Bulls and Falcons continued where they left of in game two of yesterday's double header to start the day. The game started in the top of the third inning, tied at 0. The game stayed scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when the flood gates opened for the Bulls. Madison Fernimen led the inning off with a double to left field. Mia Mitchell hit a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Fernimen to score with Sara Kelly advancing to third on the throw. Tianna Williams then hit a two-run home run over the left field wall. The Bulls took a 3-0 lead.
The Falcons didn't hesitate as they racked up four of their own runs in the fifth inning. They did so on a solo home run and with a three-run home run. The Falcons took a 4-3 lead headed into the bottom of the fifth.
The Bulls scored two in the bottom half of the inning in an unconventional way. Abbey Nagel tied the game on a passed ball with Alexis Lucyshyn scoring the eventual game winning run on an error. On a routine pop up to shortstop, she dropped the ball allowing Lucyshyn to score.
Julia Tarantino went the distance allowing four earned runs, four walks, and striking out three.
The offense continued for the Bulls as they dominated the Falcons in an 8-0 win to close out the series. In total, Buffalo reached base nine times via base on balls.
Abbey Nagel got the scoring going in the bottom of the first off a passed ball. Later when Mitchell stole second base Lily Lauck scored. In the third inning, Lauck scored again as Kate Vara had a bases loaded walk.
Up 3-0 in the fourth inning, Fernimen hit in two more for the Bulls on a single to left field. With Buffalo leading 5-0 in the sixth, Sara Kelly blasted a walk off three-run home run to clinch a mercy win.
Lucyshyn dominated from the circle as she allowed two hits, no runs, and struck out seven.
The Bulls are back in action on Friday, April 7 at Miami (OH) for a three-game series.
