OXFORD, Ohio – The University at Buffalo softball team (10-20, 4-2 MAC) fell to the Miami (OH) RedHawks (18-14, 6-6 MAC) on Friday evening, 5-3.
Despite outhitting the RedHawks, the Bulls found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard. UB had seven hits on the day with Miami (OH) recording six.
The Bulls jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning off a bad throw from the third baseman trying to turn a double play. Tianna Williams put the ball in play, but the errant throw allowed Lily Lauck to score from first as the ball went all the way to the right field fence. On the throw in, Williams stopped at third, but was able to score as the RedHawks couldn't handle the ball.
Miami answered in the fourth inning as they scored all five of their runs. They got on the board with a solo home run. With two runners on, another run scored on an RBI single to left center. The next batter then hit a three-run home run. Miami led 5-2 after four innings.
The Bulls got one run back in the top of the fifth as Sara Kelly hit a double to left. Mia Mitchell knocked her in on a double to center, making it a 5-3 ballgame.
The Bulls weren't able to muster anymore offense as the RedHawks took the contest.
UB and Miami will face each other for a doubleheader tomorrow that starts at 1 p.m.
