3/31/2023 12:59:00 PM | Softball
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (7-19, 1-1 MAC) is set to play the Bowling Green Falcons (8-21, 1-8 MAC) in a three-game series this weekend at the Medaille Sports Complex. Game one will start at 1 p.m. with game two starting at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday. The series will wrap up at noon on Sunday.
Buffalo enters the weekend with a 7-19 overall record and 1-1 in MAC play. Buffalo defeated Toledo last weekend for their first conference win of the year. The Bulls and Rockets split the two-game series and game three was called after severe winds threatened the safety of the players. The Bulls are being led offensively by freshman Abbey Nagel, who is batting .280 with 23 hits. Senior Alexis Lucyshyn leads the Bulls with three home runs. Madison Fernimen has a team-high 10 RBIs on the season.
In the circle, Lucyshyn is 4-8 with a 2.73 ERA as she has struck out 83 batters in 74.1 innings pitched. Julia Tarantino earned her first win last week in a 7-2 win over Toledo. She has appeared in 12 games pitching 60.2 innings. Freshman Emily Watters has appeared in nine games including three starts for the Bulls.
The Falcons are coming off six straight losses, including getting swept by the Ohio Bobcats and Western Michigan Broncos. The Falcons are 1-8 in MAC play. The Falcons took last year's series, 2-1, as every game was close. Bowling Green took game one 2-1 after 14 innings. Buffalo won game two in a 7-6 win after eight innings. The Falcons won the rubber match 4-0. Offensively, they're led by Sophie Weber who holds a .366 batting average. She also leads the team with 30 hits on the season. Delaney Davis has touched home 15 times as she has an on base percentage of .400. Pitching has been a struggle as the Falcons hold a 5.59 ERA compared to their opponents' 2.93 ERA. They also allow opponents to have a .320 batting average.
The Bulls will hit the road next weekend as they play the Miami (OH) RedHawks.
