The Bulls Head Down to Virginia for Weekend Tournament

NORFOLK, Va. β The University at Buffalo softball team (1-7, 0-0 MAC) is set to begin their third weekend of the 2023 season on Friday. The Bulls will participate at the Spartan/Pirate Classic in Virginia. The tournament will be co-hosted by Norfolk State and Hampton.

Buffalo enters the weekend with a 1-7 record, but the Bulls are being led offensively by freshman Abbey Nagel, who is batting .308 with eight hits, including three double and a home run. She's also added a team-high five RBIs. Alexis Lucyshyn is also batting .308 with an on base percentage of .333.

In the circle, Lucyshyn is 1-2 with a 3.56 ERA as she has struck out 20 batters in 19.2 innings pitched. Fellow pitcher Julia Tarantino has pitched 21.0 innings.

The Bulls will open the tournament on Friday morning at 10 a.m. against Stony Brook. The Seawolves enter the weekend with a 2-3 record as they played at FAU Paradise Classic to open the season.Β Sofia Chambers leads the Seawolves offensively with a .417 batting average and three walks. Alyssa Costello has a team-high five RBIs on the season. Maddie Male is 1-1 with 8.1 innings pitched and has yet to allow an earned run.

Norfolk State is led by Gabby Vaughan as she has a .381 batting average and team-high five RBIs. She also has a team-high on base percentage of .567. The pitching staff has had a great season as they've combined for a 2.05 ERA and striking out 47.

The Bulls will open Saturday at 10 a.m. when they face co-host Hampton. The Pirates are 4-3 on the season. As a team, they're only hitting .201 with Julia Sinnett leading the team at .318. Carmynn Bonner holds a 2.49 ERA through 19.2 innings pitched.

Buffalo will battle Colgate at 12:30 p.m. after facing Hampton. The Raiders are 3-7 and have picked up wins against Drexel, Minnesota, and Butler. Kara Fusco has a batting average of .346 with six RBIs and 13 total bases. In the circle, the Raiders have allowed 44 earned runs on the year for an ERA of 5.40.
