
Bulls Wrapped Up Their Action at the UTEP Invitational on Friday Evening

EL PASO, Texas – The University at Buffalo softball team (1-7, 0-0 MAC) dropped two games on Friday at the UTEP Invitational. In the double header, the Bulls fell to the Santa Clara Broncos (1-5, 0-0 WCC), 6-0. Following the first game, the Bulls lost to the New Mexico Lobos (3-3, 0-0 Mountain West), 11-2.
Game 1 vs. Santa Clara
The Bulls struggled to get the bats going against the Broncos as Kate Vara had the Bulls' first hit of the day in the top of the fifth inning.
Santa Clara scored early and often against Buffalo. In the bottom of the second, the Bulls were able to get out of a bases loaded no-out jam by allowing just one run. After two innings of action, Santa Clara led 1-0.
Timely hitting surged the Broncos to a 5-0 lead in the third inning as they capitalized on a Buffalo error, stealing a run. Santa Clara took advantage of putting the ball in play as they finished with 11 hits.
Hazyl Gray of Santa Clara went 5.1 innings and struck out seven Bulls.
Game 2 vs. New Mexico
The Bulls bookended the day with the festivities at the UTEP Invitational on Friday. After a long day, the Bulls lost to the New Mexico Lobos, 11-2 after five innings.
The Lobos got off to a fast start as they scored four in the top of the first inning.
Tianna Williams had the Bulls' two RBIs against New Mexico. In the second inning she grounded out to second allowing Mia Mitchell to score. In the fourth inning she singled as Taylynn Williams touched home.
Mitchell, Lily Lauck, and Ti. Williams had the three hits for the Bulls in the second game.
In relief, Emily Watters went 2.0 innings without allowing a run.
The Bulls are back in action on Friday, Feb. 24 as they'll participate at the Spartan/Pirate Classic hosted by Hampton and Norfolk State.
