Bulls Host Kent State on Rising Coaches Equality & Inclusion Night

BUFFALO, NY β After playing four of their last five games on the road, the University at Buffalo women's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of Alumni Arena for a two-game homestand, beginning with a contest against Kent State on Wednesday at 6pm.
The Bulls will be taking part in Rising Coaches Diversity & Inclusion Night. The coaching staff will wear black to display unity and an equal sign pin to symbolize equality. It is also the team's Pride Night and there will be various in-game elements that coordinate with both causes. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Paul Peck (play-by-play) and Matt Mattia (color) announcing and can be heard on the radio on ESPN 1520 AM or on the Varsity Network with Jack Kreuzer on the call.
This is the 45th overall meeting between Buffalo and Kent State with the Golden Flashes owning a 31-23 series advantage. The Bulls fell to the Golden Flashes at the buzzer at the M.A.C. Center in the MAC opener on January 4.
A last second shot came up short as Buffalo fell at the buzzer at Central Michigan on Saturday. Re'Shawna Stone had a fantastic game, scoring a game-high 23 poijnts to go with four rebounds and six assists. Zakiyah Winfield scored 19 points and Jazmine Young added 11.
Winfield leads the team in rebounding and assists at 10.3 rpg and 3.9 apg while ranking second on the team in scoring at 15.0 ppg and has recorded 12 double-doubles on the season. She is the top rebounding guard in the nation and ranks in the top 25 in the nation in double-doubles, rebounds per game and defensive rebounds per game. Stone is leading the Bulls in scoring at 15.5 ppg and has scored in double figures in 16 of the last 17 games while adding 5.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists per contest. Young has scored in double figures in 18 of 21 games, including 12 straight, and is averaging 14.0 points and 1.6 assists per contest. The Bulls rank in the top half of the MAC in scoring defense (64.8), field goal percentage (43.2), assists per game (13.1) and assist-to-turnover ratio (+0.9).
The Kent State Golden Flashes are 15-8 overall and 7-5 in league play after falling to Bowling Green 75-69 on Saturday. Fifth year forward Lindsey Thall leads the Golden Flashes in scoring at 11.4 ppg. Katie Shumate (10.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg) and Corynne Hauser (10.2 ppg, 3.2 apg) are also scoring in double figures. Thall is Kent State's all-time leader with 256 triples. She ranks 21st among active NCAA Division I players while ranking second in program history and 10th among active players in career blocks (196). Kent State is ranked 23rd in the Mid-Major Top 25 and have won four of the past six, with the only losses in that stretch coming to league leaders Ball State and Bowling Green. The Golden Flashes rank second in the MAC and 28th nationally in three-point field goals made per game (8.2) while also ranking second in the league in 3FG percentage (34.0). Under head coach Todd Starkey, Kent State is eighth in the nation in free throws per game (14.60), 17th in free throws made (2,921) and tied for 24th in free throw attempts (3,992).
Up next, Buffalo will welcome the Miami (OH) RedHawks to Alumni Arena on Saturday, February 18. Tipoff is set for 2pm.
