Bulls Host Kutztown on Sunday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team looks to extend their win streak to four games as they close out play in the month of November with a contest against Kutztown on Sunday at 1pm.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Kevin Sylvester (play-by-play) and Matt Mattia (color) announcing and can be heard on the radio on 1520 AM or on the Varsity Network with Jack Kreuzer on the call.
This is the second overall meeting between Buffalo and Kutztown and the first in UB's Division I era. The Bulls and Bears last played each other on December 1, 1989 with the Bears coming away with a 70-64 win.
For the first time since 2019, Buffalo swept all three Big 4 opponents as the Bulls defeated St. Bonaventure 78-69 on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Arena. Four Bulls scored in double figures led by redshirt senior guard Chellia Watson who exploded for a season-high 30 points. Freshman Kirsten Lewis-Williams recorded a career-high with 19 points to go with eight rebounds and sophomore Hattie Ogden scored in double figures for the third straight game, recording her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Rana Elhusseini also scored in double figures with 13 points, including nine in the second half.
The Bulls are balanced offensively with four players averaging in double figures, led by Watson at 20.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Lewis-Williams (12.8 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.4 apg), Ogden (11.2 ppg, 6.6 rpg) and Elhusseini (10.8 ppg, 3.2 apg) have also made been a consistent scoring threat for UB to start the year. As a team, Buffalo leads the MAC in in scoring defense (60.4) and field goal defense (.353) and is ranked in the top three in scoring margin (+9.0), field goal percentage (.431), 3FG defense (.288), rebounds per game (37.6), defensive rebounds per game (26.2) and turnover margin (+2.0).
The Kutztown Golden Bears are 1-3 after falling to Jefferson 68-62 on November 18. The Bears are led offensively by reining All-PSAC East First Team junior guard Naia Pulliam who is averaging 17.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Senior forward Abbey Hearn (12.9 ppg, 6.8 rpg). is also averaging in double figures. Graduate student guard Casey Remolde, a three-time All-PSAC East Second Team selection and the 2020 East Defensive Athlete of the Year, is picking up where she left off, averaging 7.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
Kutztown was picked second in the PSAC East preseason poll. The Golden Bears finished last season 15-15 overall and 12-10 in the PSAC, third in the East, winning a postseason game for the second straight season. Kutztown is an upperclassmen laden team with seven players with experience that are juniors or older. Janet Malouf, a four-time PSAC East Coach of the Year and the program's all-time winningest coach, is in her 29th season at the helm of the Golden Bears. Under her guidance, Kutztown has reached the postseason in 12 of the last 14 seasons.
Up next, Buffalo will open play in the month of the December with a two-game road trip, starting on Saturday, December 2 at Stony Brook.
