Women’s Soccer Places Six Student-Athletes on Academic All-District Squad

BUFFALO, NY – Six members of the University at Buffalo women's soccer team were named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
Fifth year student-athletes Leah Wengender and Emily Lazenby, senior Olivia Bizzoni, juniors Arianna Zumpano and Kaya Schultz and sophomore Sarah Woods were all named to this year's Academic All-District squad.
To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average.
Wengender earns Academic All-District honors for the second straight year after being named to the All-MAC second team for the third time in her decorated UB career. The Rochester, NY native continued to bring speed and versatility to the Bulls' attacking midfield, tying a career-high with four goals and 13 points while adding a career-best five assists, all of which came in league play. She finished third on the team with 28 shots and 18 shots on goal.
Lazenby also earns Academic All-District honors for the second straight year. She appeared and started in 17 games this season ad was an anchor for a UB backline that recorded eight shutouts and a 1.33 goals against average on the year.
Bizzoni did it all for the Bulls as a senior, playing multiple positions in the Bulls' attacking midfield and backline. She appeared and started in all 18 games and tied a career-high with two assists, including on the game-winners at Ohio State and at Colgate, while taking 10 shots.
Zumpano earned Second Team All-MAC honors for the first time in her Buffalo career. The Niagara Falls, Ontario native scored six total goals on the year but really took her play up a notch in conference play as five of her goals and all of her career-high three assists came in league action. She finished MAC play ranked tied for seventh in goals (5) and goals per game (0.45) while ranking eighth in points (13) and points per game (1.18). She has also moved into the top 20 in program history for career goals with 17.
Schultz was a consistent presence in the Bulls' midfield as she appeared and started in 17 games while recording one assist for UB as a junior.
Woods continued to excel and was a force in the Bulls' attack as a sophomore as she recorded two assists and 17 shots on the year.
The 2023 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
