Bulls Battle Top Seeded Western Michigan and Northern Illinois in Weekend Road Trip

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (19-4, 9-2 MAC) will travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. and battle the top-seeded Western Michigan Broncos (21-2, 11-0 MAC). Following Friday's match, the Bulls will play the Northern Illinois Huskies (8-15, 6-5 MAC) on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET. Both matches can be seen on ESPN+.
 
The Bulls are currently in second place in the MAC at 9-2. Overall, UB is 19-4 on the season. The Bulls haven't had a 20-win season since 1995 when they finished 22-13. That is the only time UB has finished with a 20-win season in their Division I Era, since 1991. With their Saturday win over Ball State, the Bulls earned their first back-to-back19-win seasons in Division I history. The last time it happened in program history was in 1989 (34) and 1990 (28).
 
Historically, the Broncos and Huskies have dominated their respective series against UB. The Bulls are 5-28 against Western Michigan and 8-21 against Northern Illinois. The last time UB won at Western Michigan was on Oct. 12, 2018.
 
The Bulls are coming off a three-game winning streak last week. UB defeated the Akron Zips in straight sets then had two five-set victories over the Ball State Cardinals. The Bulls entered their weekend series against Ball State with just one win all-time against the Cardinals. UB finished with a season-high 99 points in Saturday's victory as Stacia Gollogly had a career-high 24 kills.
 
The program leader in weekly honors continues to bring home the accolades after last week's performance. Mandy Leigh was named MAC East Setter of the Week on Monday for the sixth time this season. It also marks the and 12th in her career. The Bulls have taken home at least one weekly award over the last eight weeks. M. Leigh had an outstanding weekend for the Bulls against Akron and Ball State. She totaled 169 assists, good for 13.00 per set, including a career-high 74 against Ball State on Saturday. She added two double-double against the Cardinals as she now has a team leading 14 on the season. Leigh finished with 11 kills, 169 assists, two aces, 33 digs, five blocks, and 15.5 points.
 
On the season, the Bulls are 14-3 when two players have 10 or more kills in a match. Trebichavska leads the team with 17 matches with 10 or more kills. There have been 22 double-doubles on the year by the Bulls. M. Leigh leads the team with 14, followed by Trebichavska (5), Maurine Calande (2), and Manoela Forlin (2).
 
Buffalo has the top hitting duo in the MAC with Courtney Okwara and Abby Leigh. Okwara ranks second in the nation at .462 with A. Leigh at 43rd and third in the MAC with a rate of .379. UB is just one of four teams in the country to have two hitters in the top-50 in hitting percentage. The other three programs are Florida State, Duke, and Pittsburgh; all three are in the ACC.

Katrin Trebichavska has 50 service aces on the season, good for second in the country and first in the MAC. Her 0.60 aces per set is sixth in the NCAA and leads all MAC players. As a team, they're one of the best offenses and defenses in the country. The Bulls have a .267 hitting percentage, which is 26th in the country. They limit their opposition to just a .195 hitting percentage, good for 127th in the NCAA and second in the MAC.
