Bulls Host Akron to Begin Three Game Home Stand

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (16-4, 6-2 MAC) will host the Akron Zips (10-9, 5-3 MAC) on Tuesday evening. This will be a huge matchup for the MAC standings as the Bulls are in third with the Zips sitting sixth.
The Bulls are off to a 6-2 start in MAC play, their best start in program history. Historically, it has been an even series, as the Zips hold edge with a 31-23 record over the Bulls. The Bulls come into the match having won four of their last five matches. Head Coach Scott Smith is 7-2 against the Zips.
The Bulls are coming off a series split on the road at Toledo. In both matches, the Bulls fell into a 2-0 hole. In Friday's match, UB completed the comeback to win the match, 3-2. On Saturday, UB ran out of gas as they fell to the Rockets, 3-2. On Friday's victory, junior setter Mandy Leigh became the seventh Bull in program history to reach 3,000 career assists. Her total of 3,060 assists is 175 away from passing Dani Reinert (2010-13, 3,234) for sixth all-time. Also closing in on a milestone is Maria Futey as she is just five digs away from 1,000 in her career. Abby Leigh needs 5.5 points to reach 1,000 career points.
On the season, the Bulls are 12-3 when two players have 10 or more kills in a match. In last Friday night's win over Toledo, three Bulls had double digit kills. Katrin Trebichavska led the match with 21, followed by Manoela Forlin (16), Okwara (13). Trebichavska leads the team with 13 matches with 10 or more kills. There have been 18 double-doubles on the year by the Bulls. Mandy Leigh leads the team with 12, followed by Trebichavska (3), Manoela Forlin (2), and Maurine Calande (1).
Buffalo has the top hitting duo in the MAC with Courtney Okwara and Abby Leigh. Okwara ranks first the nation at .474 with A. Leigh at 64th and third in the MAC with a rate of .364.
2023 four-time MAC East Setter of the Week M. Leigh is 72nd in the NCAA (third in the MAC) averaging 9.70 assists per set. Trebichavska has 39 service aces on the season, good for third in the country and first in the MAC. Her 0.64 aces per set is fifth in the NCAA and leads all MAC players. As a team, they're one of the best offenses and defenses in the country. The Bulls have a .271 hitting percentage, which is 22nd in the country. They limit their opposition to just a .181 hitting percentage, good for 83rd in the NCAA and second in the MAC.
