Bulls Déjà Vu Comeback Falls Short on Saturday

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (16-4, 6-2 MAC) fell in their Saturday showdown against the Toledo Rockets (8-11, 6-2 MAC), 19-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-15, 13-15.
Similar to last night's match, the Bulls found themselves down 2-0 after dropping the first two sets. Through those sets, Toledo outhit UB, .237 to .182. The Bulls started with the lead in both sets as they were up 4-0 in the first and 2-0 in the second but could not maintain the lead.
In the third set, both teams struggled offensively as UB hit at a rate of .184, holding the Rockets to .109. In the set, there were 10 ties and six lead changes, both match highs. Abby Leigh led the Bulls with four kills as both Manoela Forlin and Stacia Gollogly had three. The Bulls' largest lead of the set was six as they held a 23-17 lead. Toledo started to make a run, but UB won the set, 25-21.
The Bulls offense and defense clicked in the fourth set as the hit .407 and limited Toledo at .174. UB led wire to wire while forcing 12 Rocket errors. Katrin Trebichavska had four aces including three in a row to give the Bulls a commanding 24-13 lead. UB forced the decisive fifth set for the second night in a row against the Rockets.
UB's luck ran out in the fifth set as they had seven total errors. Despite having one more kill than Toledo, the Rockets had a hitting percentage of .375 to UB's .200. The Bulls held a 10-8 lead forcing Toledo to call a timeout. The Rockets regrouped and went on a 4-1 run to lead 12-11. Toledo went on to win the match by taking the set 15-13.
The Bulls entered the game 15-0 when outhitting their opponents. This was their first loss on the season as the Rockets hit .214 to UB's .220.
Tehya Shaw racked up a career-high three blocks on the day. Trebichavska added five aces to her season total as she is up to a MAC leading 45. She went on to have a team-high 17 kills with A. Leigh finishing with 13. Stacia Gollogly had a career-high hitting percentage at .429 as she had six kills on 14 attempts with no errors. Mandy Leigh got her 12th double-double of the season with 45 assists and 12 digs.
Next week the Bulls have a busy week as they'll have three home games. The action will start on Tuesday against Akron (10-9, 5-3 MAC) followed by a weekend series against Ball State (11-8, 8-0 MAC).
