BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (4-2, 0-0 MAC) captured their fourth win of the season as they defeated Cleveland State (1-5, 0-0 Horizon) to wrap up their action at the Lehigh Steel Tournament.
UB bounced back after a tough loss to host Lehigh last night as they got back in the win column with a victory over the Cleveland State Vikings in straight sets, 25-21, 25-10, 25-18. Through their first six games, the Bulls are off to their best start since the 2018 season when they started 5-1.
In a tight first set, the Bulls turned it on in the second. UB had a hit rate of .414 as Cleveland State was in the negative at -.036 in the second set. The Vikings would lead early in the third set, but it was not by enough as the Bulls charged back to complete the sweep.
UB capitalized on their serves as they had eight aces, Maria Futey having half of them. The Bulls nearly doubled the Vikings number of kills with UB finishing with 39 as the Vikings had 20. Mandy Leigh had 29 of the Bulls' 33 assists as she continues to dominate as MAC East Setter of the Week. Emma Gielas led the team with 11 kills with a hit percentage of .500 as she had two errors on 18 attempts.
