Bulls Defeat Canisius, 3-1; Move to 5-2 on the Season

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (5-2, 0-0 MAC) defeated cross town rival Canisius (2-5, 0-0 MAAC) on Thursday evening. UB traveled to the Koessler Athletic Center as the Bulls and Golden Griffins co-host this year's WNY Invite.
The Bulls earned their fifth win of the season as they took down Canisius in four sets, 19-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-18.
UB faced an early 10-point deficit in the first set. Although they closed the gap to four when they were down 20-16, Canisius was able to pull away and take set one.
The Bulls would dominate sets two, three, and four as they took the victory. Katrin Trebichavska led the match with 16 total kills on 28 attempts with just two errors. Trebichavska finished with an astounding hit percentage of .500 earning 20 points for the team. Courtney Okwara finished with 10 kills on 15 attempts to earn a hit percentage of .533.
Setting specialist Mandy Leigh finished with 35 assists. She is now up to 259 assists on the season averaging 10.36 per set.
Defensively, the Bulls came up huge at the net. UB edged Canisius 11-4 in blocks. Abby Leigh led the way with nine as M. Leigh finished with three, and Cali Assaley has two.
The Bulls are back in action tomorrow at 11 a.m. against Youngstown State (3-3, 0-0 Horizon) at Alumni Arena. UB will then host Bucknell at (6-0, 0-0 Patriot) at 5 p.m.
