MOUNT PLEASANT, MI – The University at Buffalo softball team dropped a double header at Margo Jonker Stadium on Saturday afternoon to conclude weekend play. The Bulls fell 9-0 in five innings in game one before dropping game two 9-3.
Central Michigan struck first on a two-run home run to take an early 2-0 lead and they would add to their lead, scoring three runs on four hits to go up 5-0 at the end of the third.
The Chippewas continued to pile on in the fourth as they scored four runs on five hits and a UB error to take a 9-0 lead and that was enough to secure the victory as the Bulls were held to just two hits in five innings.
The Bulls got the bats going in game two as Anna Aguon drew a lead-off walk, Rachel Steffan singled and then Alexis Lucyshyn followed with a double to left center field to give the Bulls an early 2-0 lead.
Central Michigan broke through in a big way, scoring four runs on four hits and a UB error to take a 4-2 lead at the end of the second.
Buffalo showed promise in the top of the fourth as Alexis Matheney led off with a single and Castro followed with a walk to put a runner in scoring position, but the Bulls were unable to plate a run and that proved to be costly as the Chippewas broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs on six hits and a UB error to take a commanding 9-2 lead.
Junior Brianna Castro gave the Bulls a lift in the top of the sixth as she blasted a solo home run to cut the lead to six but that would be as close as they would get.
Buffalo returns to action on Tuesday, May 3 as they open their final home series of the regular season against Kent State at 3pm at Nan Harvey Field.
