Bulls Sweep Kent State with a Pair of Shutouts
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo softball team swept a pair of games against Kent State on Tuesday afternoon at Nan Harvey Field. The Bulls blanked the Golden Flashes, 3-0, in game one and, 2-0, in the night cap.
Alexis Lucyshyn was dominant on the mound in the opener and helped on her own cause by hitting a walk-off three-run home run to lead the Bulls to a 3-0 win over Kent State in eight innings.
Lucyshyn allowed five hits and struck out a career-high 13 batters to earn her 10th win of the season. Her 13 strikeouts were three shy of the program record.
Kent State starting pitcher Jessica Lebeau also had a strong outing, no-hitting the Bulls and striking out 12 over seven innings.
With the game scoreless heading to the bottom of the eighth inning, Sara Kelly led off with an infield single and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Celyna Shaw. Rachel Steffen was hit by a pitch to put two on for Lucyshyn. The Bulls' junior stepped to the plate and launched a towering home run over the wall in left center field to win it for UB.
In game two, Julia Tarantino went the distance, allowing four hits and striking out two for her ninth win of the year.
History was made in the bottom of the first inning when Anna Aguon led off the game with a solo home to give the Bulls an early 1-0 lead. It was her 31st career home run, breaking the all-time program record.
