
Bulls Travel to Central Michigan For Weekend Series

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo softball travels to Mount Pleasant for a three-game series with the Central Michigan Chippewas this weekend at Margo Jonker Stadium.
Weekend play will open with a single game on Friday at 3pm, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1pm.
The Bulls are 17-21 overall and 8-11 in MAC play after taking two-of-three games against Ball State this past weekend. The Buffalo offense exploded for 20 runs on 20 hits in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday before UB fell 4-0 in the series finale on Sunday. Five different batters recorded multi-hit games on the weekend.
Buffalo is led at the plate by junior Alexis Lucyshyn who owns a .313 batting average on a team-best 36 hits, including four doubles and four home runs, 22 RBI and 15 runs scored while recording a .393 on base percentage. Junior Brianna Castro is a veteran presence at the plate as she is batting .313 to go with 35 hits, including 12 doubles, a triple and three home runs, 18 RBI and 18 runs scored. Sophomore Rachel Steffan also brings consistency as she is batting .277 with 31 hits, including five doubles, three triples and seven home runs, 25 RBI and 27 runs scored while leading the team with a .563 slugging percentage.
Lucyshyn also leads UB in the circle as she owns an 8-7 overall record, including 12 complete games, with a 3.21 ERA and has struck out 85 batters while allowing just 24 walks in 111.1 innings of work. Sophomore Julia Tarantino has also been solid in the circle as she is 8-13 overall with 13 complete games and an ERA of 4.40, while striking out 74 batters to just 32 walks in 121.0 innings pitched.
Winners of five of their last six games, Central Michigan enters the weekend series in second place in the MAC standings with a 22-20 overall record and an 13-7 league mark after winning two-of-three games at Western Michigan last weekend. The Chippewas are led offensively by Abbey Tolmie who is batting .352 with a team-best 50 hits, including nine doubles and two triples, 11 RBI and 29 runs scored while recording a .418 on base percentage. Michaleigh Vallimont is batting .339 with 42 hits, including six doubles and two home runs, 16 RBI and 17 runs scored while recording a .452 slugging percentage. Grace Lehto leads Central Michigan in the circle as she has compiled a 13-9 overall record, including 16 complete games, and a 2.98 ERA with 117 strikeouts in 134.0 innings of work across 27 appearances.
After the weekend series, the Bulls will return home to host Kent State in the final conference series of the regular season, beginning on Tuesday, April 3 at 3pm.
