BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team had its five-match winning streak snapped on Sunday afternoon as the Bulls fell 6-1 to Miami (OH) in the regular season finale for both teams. The Bulls will now turn their attention to the MAC Tournament, which begins next weekend in Muncie, IN.
The Bulls got out to a quick start to the match, dominating in doubles play. Ambre Amat and Lolina Schietekat Sedas had a 6-1 win at second doubles and UB clinched the early point at first doubles as Pia Schwarz and Azra Deniz Comlek won 6-4, handing Laura Rico and Brindtha Ramasamy their first MAC loss of the season.
However, in singles action the RedHawks had the better of the two teams, winning all six matches, three of those going into three sets.
Miami won straight set matches at one, three, and six to clinch the match. At second singles, Schwarz overcame a first set loss to win her second, 6-3, but lost the third, 6-2. At fifth singles, Amat won her opening set 6-2, but then dropped the next two, 6-2, 6-4.
The contest at fourth singles between Comlek and Sara Zalukar lasted over three hours as it went the distance. Zalukar won the opening set 7-5, but Comlek came back with a 7-6 (4) win in the second set. The third set also went to a tiebreaker as Zalukar won that 7-6 (5) to claim the match.
The Bulls will be the fourth seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament and will face top-seed Ball State on Saturday.
