MUNCIE, IN - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team heads to Ball State this weekend as one of four teams with Mid-American Conference Championship aspirations. The Bulls will begin their quest for a title on Saturday morning against top-ranked and host, Ball State.
The match will begin at 10am and will most likely be indoors at the Northwest YMCA due to forecasted rains for Saturday morning.
The Bulls enter the tournament with a 17-7 record and a 6-4 mark in conference play, as they had their five-match winning streak snapped on Sunday against the RedHawks. All six members of the UB lineup have at least 14 singles wins on the year, led by junior Azra Deniz Comlek, who enters the tournament with a 22-8 record. Buffalo has also excelled in doubles, where they are a combined 55-26.
Ball State, the number one seed in the tournament, is 17-4 on the year, while finishing 8-2 in MAC play. The Cardinals did suffer losses to Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois. The Bulls and Cardinals played a close match in the regular season, 4-3. UB won the doubles point in the contest and took singles matches at the top two spots.
Miami (8-2) and Toledo (7-3) will meet in the second semifinal with winners playing for the MAC championship on Sunday afternoon at 12pm. Any matches played outdoors will be broadcasted on ESPN3.
