Bulls Fall In MAC Tournament Semifinals

MUNCIE, IN – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team gave it all they had, fighting hard in singles, but ultimately UB dropped a 4-2 decision in the MAC semifinals to top-seeded and host Ball State on Friday morning. Buffalo finishes the season with a 17-8 record.
The Cardinals took the early lead as Ball State won at second and third doubles to go ahead 1-0. UB quickly tied the match back up in singles as junior Azra Deniz Comlek dominated her match at fourth singles, 6-2, 7-5. Ball State won straight set matches at four and five, but senior Pia Schwarz kept things alive with a 6-0, 7-6 (2) win at second singles, pulling UB within 3-2.
UB had to fight its way back in the last two matches on the court, as the Bulls dropped opening sets at first and sixth singles. However, Hsin-Yuan Shih scored a 6-4 win in the second set to send the match to a third, while sophomore Mariana Carvajal Torres won her second set 6-3 at sixth singles to force a third. The Cardinals were able to grab the third at sixth singles though to clinch the match.
Saturday's match was the final one for Shih and fellow senior Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou.
