
Bulls Host Miami (OH) For Weekend Series

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo softball returns home to host Miami (OH) in a three-game series this weekend at Nan Harvey Field.
Weather permitting, weekend play will open with a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1pm and will conclude with a single game on Saturday at 12pm.
The Bulls are 15-13 overall and 6-4 in MAC play after splitting a midweek series at St. Bonaventure before dropping two-of-three games at Bowling Green last week. The Bulls dropped a heartbreaker on Saturday in a one run, program record 14 inning game. They bounced back by overcoming a four-run deficit in game one of Sunday's doubleheader to win 7-6 in extra innings before falling in the series finale.
Buffalo is led at the plate by junior Alexis Lucyshyn who owns a .317 batting average on a team-best 26 hits, including four doubles and three home runs, 18 RBI and 11 runs scored while recording a team-best .417 on base percentage. Sophomore Rachel Steffan also brings consistency as she is batting .293 with 24 hits, three doubles, three triples, five home runs, 19 RBI and 21 runs scored while leading the team with a .585 slugging percentage. Junior Brianna Castro is also a veteran presence at the plate as she is batting .380 to go with 23 hits, seven doubles, a triple, two home runs, 10 RBI and 12 runs scored.
Lucyshyn also leads UB in the circle as she owns an 8-5 overall record, including 11 complete games, with a 3.05 ERA and has struck out 74 batters while allowing just 19 walks in 96.1 innings of work. Sophomore Julia Tarantino has also been solid in the circle as she is 7-8 overall with 10 complete games and an ERA of 3.80, while striking out 54 batters to just 17 walks in 88.1 innings pitched.
Conference leaders Miami (OH) enters the weekend series with a 21-12 overall record and a 12-2 league mark after sweeping a weekend series against Western Michigan. The RedHawks are led offensively by Karli Spaid who is batting .408 with a team-best 42 hits, including five doubles, a triple and 17 home runs, 35 RBI and 40 runs scored while recording a team-best .971 slugging and .504 on base percentage. Allie Cummings is batting .356 with 27 hits, nine doubles, 11 home runs, 27 RBI and 34 runs scored while recording a .760 slugging and .481 on base percentage. Courtney Vierstra leads Miami (OH) in the circle as she has compiled a 10-7 overall record, including 12 complete games, and a 2.81 ERA with 117 strikeouts in 105.2 innings of work across 19 appearances.
After the weekend series, the Bulls will travel to Akron, OH for a three-game midweek series with the Zips beginning with a single game on Tuesday, April 19 at 3pm.
