
Bulls Welcome Western Michigan to Town This Weekend

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo softball team hosts Western Michigan in a three-game series this weekend. Due to unplayable field conditions at Nan Harvey Field, this weekend's series will be held at Kenmore East High School.
Weather permitting, the weekend play will open with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 3pm, followed by a single game on as 12pm on Sunday.
The Bulls defeated Toledo 13-3 in five innings on March 25. Their Saturday doubleheader at Toledo as well as Tuesday's midweek contest at Canisius were cancelled due to cold temperatures.
Buffalo is led at the plate by junior Alexis Lucyshyn who owns a .345 batting average to go with a team-best 20 hits, three doubles, three home runs, 17 RBI and nine runs scored while recording a .552 slugging and .424 on base percentage. Junior Brianna Castro is a veteran presence at the plate as she is batting .340 with 18 hits, five doubles, a triple, a home run, nine RBI and eight runs scored while recording a .528 slugging percentage and a team-best .426 on base percentage. Sophomore Rachel Steffan is also off to a good start, batting .286 with 16 hits, three doubles, two triples, three home runs, 13 RBI and 15 runs scored while leading the team with a .571 slugging percentage.
Lucyshyn also leads UB in the circle as she owns a 6-4 overall record, including eight complete games, with a 3.71 ERA and has struck out 39 batters while allowing just eight walks in 60.1 innings of work. Sophomore Julia Tarantino has also been solid in the circle as she is 5-5 overall with seven complete games and an ERA of 3.76, while striking out 36 batters in 63.1 innings pitched.
Western Michigan enters the weekend series with a 12-16 overall record after sweeping a pair of midweek non-conference contests with wins over Valparaiso and Detroit Mercy. The Broncos are led offensively by Reily Galloway who is batting .342 with 27 hits, including four doubles and four home runs, 15 RBI and nine runs scored while recording a .544 slugging percentage. Cassidy Brendtke is batting .293 with 24 hits, eight doubles, 10 RBI and 10 runs scored. Galloway also leads Western Michigan in the circle as she has compiled a 7-7 overall record and a 1.54 ERA with 132 strikeouts in 90.2 innings of work across 16 appearances.
After the weekend series, the Bulls will travel to Big 4 foe St. Bonaventure on Wednesday, April 6, for a doubleheader against the Bonnies beginning at 3pm.
