
Bulls Drop 4-3 Decision To Ball State

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team won the early doubles point on Friday afternoon, but the Bulls ultimately fell to Ball State, 4-3, as the Cardinals won their seventh straight match.
The Bulls made easy work at first doubles as Pia Schwarz and Azra Deniz Comlek came away with a 6-2 win. After the Cardinals won at second doubles, UB stormed back to take the point with a 6-4 win at third courtesy of Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou and Gabriella Akopyan.
Singles action was tight, including a pair of matches going into a third set. Schwarz won in straight sets at one, 6-4, 6-4, while Hsin-Yuan Shih also won in straight sets at two, hanging on in a second-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 7-6 (8).
Ball State won matches at three and six in straight sets, but the contests at four and five both came down to a third set. UB won the opening set in both of those contests, but Ball State won second sets at both to force a third. In those third sets, the Cardinals won both 6-4, taking the match, 4-3.
The Bulls remain home on Sunday afternoon when they host Northern Illinois at 1pm at Miller Tennis Center.
