Long Ball Powers Bulls to 13-3 Win at Toledo on Friday

TOLEDO, OHIO – The University at Buffalo softball team hit three home runs in a 13-3 rout of Toledo in the series opener on a chilly afternoon at Scott Park on Friday afternoon.
The Bulls' bats were hot from the opening pitch as Anna Aguon led off with a single, Rachel Steffan drew a walk and Alexis Lucyshyn followed with a three-run blast to right center field to give the Bulls an early 3-0 lead. Buffalo continued to do damage as Alexis Matheney singled up the middle and then later it was Olivia Kincanon's turn to show off as she drilled a three-run home run to straightaway center field to put UB up 6-0.
Buffalo added to their lead in the top of the second as Aguon and Brianna Castro started the inning with back-to-back singles before Lucyshyn singled to left to score Aguon and put UB up 7-0 and later, Matheney and Kincanon added a pair of ground ball RBI's to give the Bulls a 9-0 lead.
UB continued to do damage with the long ball in the top of the third as Steffan got in on the fun with a two-run home run over the wall in center field to give the Bulls an 11-0 lead.
Toledo got on the board in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs on two hits and a UB error, but the Bulls answered in the top of the fourth as Castro lined a single off the wall in deep center field to put UB up 13-3 and that would be all they would need as Lucyshyn retired the Rockets in order in the bottom of the fifth to secure the run-rule victory.
Lucyshyn and Kincanon led the Bulls at the plate with four RBI each while Castro and Steffan added a pair of RBI's of their own. Lucyshyn also picked up the win in the circle as she allowed just three hits and struck out three batters in five solid innings of work.
Buffalo will conclude the series with the Rockets with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1pm.
