WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team got Mid-American Conference play started on the right foot Saturday afternoon as the Bulls defeated in-state rival Binghamton, 6-1.
In doubles action, the second doubles team of Yu-Shiang Huang and Cheng Tang won with a 6-0 shutout, while Greg Hastings and Finn Macnamara won at third doubles, 6-2, clinching the first point for UB.
In singles play, the Bulls won five of six matches, all in straight sets. Tang had a 7-5, 6-2 win at second singles, followed Macnamara who dropped just two games in a 6-0, 6-2 win at three.
Daniils Snaiders won 6-2, 6-1 at fourth singles and Huang won 6-1, 6-1 at fifth singles. Hastings scored a 6-2, 6-3 victory at sixth singles. Senior Simon Wibler won his opening set at first singles, but lost in a third set super tiebreaker.
"First off, it was so amazing to play a home match with fans again," said head coach Lee Nickell. "I can't thank all of the people who came out to support enough, it certainly helped us close out matches today. This was the first match of the year I felt all of our players competed at a high level collectively. We are going to keep working and reinforcing everything we have learned so we can get ready for Western Michigan on Friday."
The Bulls host the Broncos on Friday at 1pm.
