
Bulls Welcome Ohio To Alumni Arena on Wednesday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team concludes its homestand with a clash against the Ohio Bobcats on Wednesday, February 23 at 7pm. With a win, the Bulls will clinch a spot in the 2022 Mid-American Conference Tournament. It is Equality and Inclusion night at Alumni Arena and UB players and coaches will be wearing all black to represent unity.
The game will be streamed on ESPN3 with Paul Peck (play-by-play) and Kevin Sylvester (color) announcing and can be heard on the radio on ESPN 1520 AM or on the Varsity Network with Matt Mattia on the call.
This is the 46th meeting between Buffalo and Ohio, with the Bulls owning the 25-21 series edge. Ohio defeated the Bulls 68-66 at the Convocation Center on January 24th.
Buffalo is 18-8 overall and 12-4 in league play after defeating Miami (OH) 83-71 on Saturday. Junior guard Dyaisha Fair turned in another stellar performance as she eclipsed the 30-point mark for the third time in four games, with a game-high 36 points to go with seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Freshman Georgia Woolley scored 14 of her 20 points in the second half and junior Loren Christie recorded her third double-double of the season, tying a career-high with 14 points while pulling down 10 rebounds.
Fair leads the Bulls and ranks fourth in the nation in scoring at 23.8 points per game. Summer Hemphill is averaging just under a double-double with 13.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while Woolley has scored in double figures in 20 of the last 21 games and is averaging 14.0 points per game, the best amongst all rookies in the league. Buffalo is distributing the basketball at an excellent clip, averaging 15.0 assists per game and a 1.1 assist-to-turnover ratio, both ranking in the top 55 nationally while also ranking 42nd with a +3.6 turnover margin. That leads to a potent offense which ranks 26th in the nation in scoring (75.3 ppg). The Bulls are ranked 79th in the latest NET rankings. They are also ranked 24th in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll.
Ohio enters Wednesday's contest with a 14-10 overall record and 8-7 league mark after defeating Akron 69-66 on Monday. The Bobcats are led offensively by CeCe Hooks who is averaging 22.9 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. Erica Johnson (16.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 4.8 apg) and Gabby Burris (14.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg) are also scoring in double figures. Hooks set the program's career scoring record in the Bobcats' win over Central Michigan and set the MAC scoring record against Bowling Green on January 22nd. She currently sits at 2,723 career points. She is also the only player in MAC history to make 1,000+ field goals. Johnson is one of only three active four-year players with career totals of at least 1,300 points, 450 rebounds, 350 assists, and 100 steals. Ohio leads the MAC and ranks 23rd in the nation in scoring (75.4) and lead the league and 12th nationally in three-point field goals made per game (9.1).
