
Bulls Sweep Friday Action

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team improved to 8-0 on the season as the Bulls defeated Siena and St. Bonaventure by identical 6-1 scores on Friday at the Miller Tennis Center.
The Bulls were a perfect 6-0 in doubles throughout the two matches as eight different players played doubles. Amber Amat and Lolina Schietekat Sedas won twice at second doubles, claiming a 6-2 win against Siena and a 6-3 victory over St. Bonaventure. The number three team of Gabriella Akopyan and Mariana Carvajal Torres also won twice with a 6-3 win over Siena and a 6-4 triumph over St. Bonaventure.
At first doubles, Hsin-Yuan Shih and Azra Deniz Comlek got the call in the opener against Siena, winning 6-4, while in the nightcap it was Pia Schwarz and Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou, who scored the 6-0 sweep against the Bonnies.
In singles action, the Bulls claimed 10 of 12 matches over the course of the day. Four Bulls won a pair of matches. Shih won 6-1, 6-0 at second singles against Siena and moved up to first singles in the evening for a 6-3, 6-2 win over the Bonnies. Akopyan won both of her matches at third singles as she went a perfect 4-0 on the day, the only Bull to play all four contests. She won 6-2, 6-4 in the afternoon, followed by a 6-1, 7-5 victory against St. Bonaventure.
Comlek won 6-0, 6-1 at fifth singles against Siena and 6-3, 6-3 against the Bonnies. At sixth singles, Antoniou-Karademitrou dropped just three games all day as she won 6-0, 6-`1 in the opener and 6-2, 6-0 in the nightcap.
Torres played fourth singles in the first match against St. Bonaventure and came away with a 6-3, 6-1 win and Schietekat Sedas won at fifth singles against St. Bonaventure 6-0, 6-1.
The Bulls conclude their busy weekend tomorrow when the Bulls travel to Syracuse for a 12:00 match against the Orange.
