Kelly, Callaghan Named United Soccer Coaches All-Americans

KANSAS CITY, Mo – The honors continue to roll in for the 2022 Mid-American Conference Champion University at Buffalo women's soccer team as the Bulls had a pair of student-athletes selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-America team, as announced by the organization on Friday afternoon. Fifth year goalkeeper Emily Kelly earned second team All-America honors while Hannah Callaghan landed on the third team.
Buffalo has now had four players earn All-America status. This is first time in program history that the Bulls have had two All-America honorees in the same season. Kelly joins Marcy Barberic as the only Bulls to earn second team honors while Callaghan is the second player to earn third team honors, joining former Bull Jackie Hall who was a third team selection in 2014.
"It's impossible to find the words to adequately explain what Emily and Hannah have meant to our program," said head coach Shawn Burke. "They have been the pulse and heartbeat of our success and we are so proud of them and all their accomplishments. They have raised the standard here at UB and have forever left their mark!"
Kelly was named to the All-Midwest Region first team earlier this week. The MAC Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-MAC honoree finished her storied career as Buffalo's all-time winningest goalkeeper with 54 wins and holds the school record with 35 shutouts while ranking third in program history in career goals against average (0.934) and eighth in career saves (331). The Wilson, NY native set the single season goals against average (0.43) tied the shutout record (13) and is second in single season wins (15). Kelly led the nation and the MAC in shutouts (13) while also leading the league and ranking in the top 10 nationally in goals against average (0.431) and save percentage (0.878).
Callaghan also earned first team All-Midwest Region honors for the first time, while also earning Second Team All-MAC recognition. The Rochester, NY native was a catalyst for a strong UB midfield and backline as she has helped the Bulls 14 clean sheets on the season, tied for the most in program history, and a 0.43 goals against average, while adding a goal and two assists on the season.
UB's All-America duo led Buffalo to their second MAC Championship title and second NCAA Tournament appearance and a school record 17-game unbeaten streak. The dominant UB backline recorded 14 shutouts on the season, which is tied for the most in program history.
The Bulls finished the season leading the nation in goals against average (0.43) while also ranking in the top 10 in save percentage (.880), shutout percentage (0.667), penalty kick percentage (1.000) and won-lost-tied percentage (.810).
This year's All-Americans will be recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
