Bulls Wrap Up Fall Season at UB Invite

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team hosted the UB Fall Invite this past weekend, welcoming competitors from NJIT, Cornell, Syracuse, and Niagara. The weekend was played in a hidden dual format with UB playing different teams each day.
On Friday, UB matched up with NJIT winning two of three matches in doubles. Pia Schwarz and Azra Deniz Comlek won 6-3 at first doubles and Ambre Amat and Deanne Choo won at second doubles, 6-4. In singles action, Schwarz won in three sets at first singles, Comlek won a hard-fought match at third singles 7-6 (6), 7-5 and Gabriella Akopyan picked up a three-set win at fifth singles. Amat won 6-2, 6-4 at fifth singles and Mariana Carvajal Torres also won her match in three sets.
On Saturday, Buffalo played a combination of players from Syracuse and Niagara. After dropping three matches in doubles play, the Bulls rallied back in singles action as they took five points. Choo battled for a three-set victory at fourth singles, winning 3-6, 6-3, 10-4, Akopyan won 6-2, 6-2 at fifth singles and Amat played well at sixth singles, winning 6-2, 6-3. Carvajal Torres and Lolina Schietekat Sedas also picked up wins on the afternoon.
On Sunday, Buffalo faced off against Cornell with Comlek, Choo and Amat all coming away with singles victories.
The Bulls will resume competition when their spring season begins in early February.
