
Bulls Sweep IUP in Spring Season Opener

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team opened the spring season in style as UB defeated Indiana University of Pennsylvania 7-0 at the Miller Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls improve to 5-0 on the year with the victory.
UB took all three matches in doubles beginning with a 6-4 victory from Azra Deniz Comlek and Deanne Choo. At second doubles, Gabriella Akopyan and Basak Akbas won a hard-fought match, 7-6-and the third doubles squad of Ambre Amat and Lolina Schietekat Sedas won 6-2.
Singles action continued with straight-set wins in all six matches. Akbas won at first singles, 6-2, 6-4, while Comlek came away with the 6-3, 6-1 victory at two. Akopyan battled to a 7-5, 6-3 win at three and Choo had a 6-0, 6-4 victory at four.
Junior Mariana Carvajal Torres dominated in a 6-1, 6-1 win at fifth singles and Amat clinched the shutout win with a 6-1, 6-2 win at sixth singles.
The Bulls return to action on Friday, February 10 at Youngstown State.
