BUFFALO, N.Y. - The University at Buffalo cross country team competed at the Canisius Alumni Classic hosted by Canisius College on Saturday afternoon. The men finished in first place with a total score of 27 points as the women finished third with 109 points.
In the women's 5K, Vassi Klock was UB's highest finisher, placing 11th with a time of 18.49.6. Lexi Bernard finished 18th with a time of 19:03.00. Chloe Freeland (25th place, 19:18.7), Paris Welker (31st place, 19:28.8), and Brianna Urban (34th place, 19:30.9) rounded out the Bulls' top-five finishers.
"The women got off the starting line aggressively today. While it was good to see their confidence in getting out, it was a bit too aggressive and definitely impacted a few over the last 1.5 miles," stated Head Coach Vicki Mitchell. "They have a lot to learn, but have also greatly improved over the last six weeks."
UB captured a victory in the men's 8K with six Bulls placing in the top-10. Ryan Buzby claimed first place with a time of 24:43.8. UB's next finishers included Sean O'Brien (fifth place, 25:10.2), Alex Hislop (sixth place, 25:14.3), Noah Brightman (seventh place, 25:15.1), Cory Demo (eighth place, 25:15.5), and William Marchant (ninth place, 25:16.3).
"We were hoping the men would be pushed a bit more than they were, but it is nice to walk away with a comfortable win," stated Associate Head Coach Todd Witzleben.
The Bulls are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 29 as they travel to Ohio University for the Mid-American Conference Championships.
