
Bulls Conclude Homestand Against Northern Illinois on Saturday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team concludes its homestand as they play welcome Northern Illinois to town on Saturday. It is also Kids Day at Alumni Arena with giveaways for the first 500 kids in attendance and an autograph session with the team following the game.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Paul Peck (play-by-play) and Will Regan (color) announcing and can be heard on the radio on ESPN 1520 AM or on the Varsity Network with Matt Mattia on the call.
This is the 28th meeting between Buffalo and Northern Illinois, with the Huskies owning the 17-9 series edge. NIU defeated the Bulls 81-75 at the Convocation Center last season.
Buffalo is 11-7 overall and 5-3 in league play after dropping its second straight one-possession contest against Ball State on Wednesday night. The Bulls had a chance to tie the game on the final possession but a pair of contested layups from Georgia Woolley and Summer Hemphill came up short. Woolley led all scorers with a career-high 24 points, including three triples and 7-of-7 shooting from the charity stripe, to go along with five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Junior guard Dyaisha Fair also had a solid performance, scoring 22 points to go with four rebounds and five assists. Junior forward Loren Christie recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and Hemphill just missed that mark with eight points and 10 rebounds.
Fair leads the Bulls and ranks seventh in the nation in scoring at 22.2 points per game. Hemphill is averaging just under a double-double with 15.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game while Woolley has scored in double figures in 12 of the last 13 games and is averaging 11.5 points per game. Buffalo is distributing the basketball at an excellent clip, averaging 15.8 assists per game and a 1.12 assist-to-turnover ratio, both ranking in the top 40 nationally while also ranking 43rd with a +4.1 turnover margin. That leads to a potent offense which ranks 28th in the nation in scoring (75.6 ppg). The Bulls are ranked 72nd in the latest NET rankings. They are also ranked 19th in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll.

A'Jah Davis is averaging a double-double with 15.6 points and 11.6 rebounds per game and Janae Poisson (12.6 ppg, 2.6 rpg) is also averaging in double figures. NIU leads the MAC and ranks 27th in the nation with 42.4 rebounds per game. They have outrebounded their opponent in five straight games and lead the league in free throw percentage (76.3). The Huskies are also averaging 31 points per game in the paint and have scored 30+ points in the paint in 10 games this season.
Up next, Buffalo will travel to the state of Michigan for a pair of games, beginning with a stop in Ypsilanti for a battle with the Eastern Michigan Eagles on Wednesday, February 2. Tipoff at the Convocation Center is set for 7pm.
