BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team struggled to get anything going offensively on Friday night as the Bulls shot just under 40% in a 74-53 loss to Ohio, the defending MAC Champions. The loss was UB's second straight as the Bulls are 10-8 on the year and 4-4 in league play.
In the first half, the Bulls went 9-of-19 from the floor, shooting 31%, including a 2-for-13 performance from the three-point line. The poor shooting helped Ohio open up a 17-point halftime lead. Tied at 9-9, the Bobcats went on an 8-0 run and led for the remainder of the evening. It was just a 24-18 deficit with 5:04 left when Ohio ended the half on a 13-2 run.
Ohio led by as many as 23 points in the second half, but the Bulls turned on some full court pressure and ripped off a 7-0 run, which began on a three-point from freshman Curtis Jones. UB pulled within 16 with 13:04 left, but Ohio answered with a 7-0 run of its own.
UB was again within 16 with 8:30 remaining, but the Bulls couldn't pull any closer as Ohio regained the 23-point advantage late, which was tied for their largest lead of the game.
Jeenathan Williams led the Bulls with 13 points and seven rebounds. David Skogman chipped in 11 points and six boards, while Ronaldo Segu added nine points.
Maceo Jack finished with six points, as did LaQuill Hardnett, who returned to lineup after missing a few games due to injury.
Jones finished with three points and five boards and Keishawn Brewton added three points as well. Tra'von Fagan had two points and two rebounds.
In a limited sample size, the Bulls were perfect from the free throw line, going 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.
UB now has an extended break as the Bulls are not scheduled to play again until next Saturday afternoon at Central Michigan. Tip off is set for 4:30 pm.
