
Cross Country Ready to Hit the Road for Paul Short Invitational

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo cross country team will head to Bethlehem, Pa. for the historic Paul Short Invitational on Friday morning. Lehigh University will host the annual event where they will have a total of 12 races throughout the day at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
THE MEN'S SIDE
The men are back after competing at the Coast-to-Coast Battle at Beantown last Friday. UB will compete in the Men's 8k Collegiate Gold Race with the biggest field of competition this year. The race is set to kick off at 11 a.m. The Bulls will be competing against Adams State, American, Army West Point, Binghamton, Boston U, Bucknell, Canisius, Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, East Carolina, George Mason, George Washington, Hartford, Haverford, Iona, John Carroll, La Salle, Lafayette, Lehigh, Monmouth, Navy, North Carolina, Penn State, Princeton, Richmond, Rutgers, Shippensburg, Siena, St. Joseph's (Pa.), Stony Brook, Temple, UMass-Lowell, UMBC, Utah State, Vermont, Villanova, VMI, William & Mary, and Yale.
Scott Loforte, this weeks Men's MAC Cross Country Runner of the Week honoree, has given the team his veteran experience. After finishing 55th place last week, he will look to improve his time of 25:26 at the Paul Short 8k. Alex Hislop and Patrick Hazlitt have had strong starts to the season. Freshman Cory Demo has two top-25 finishes to start his collegiate career, as Matthew Persampieri has two top-50 finishes.
THE WOMEN'S SIDE
After having last weekend off, the women's team will be competing in the Brown Female Collegiate 6k race. The race is set to begin at 1 p.m. on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. Allegheny, Amherst, Baldwin Wallace, Bloomsburg, Canisius, Carnegie Mellon, Chestnut Hill, Christopher Newport, Coast Guard, Colgate, Connecticut College, Delaware, Dickinson, Fairfield, Haverford, Hofstra, Holy Cross, John Carroll, John's Hopkins, LIU, Lock Haven, Loyola (Md.), Miami (Fla.), Mount St. Mary's, Niagara, NYU, Penn, Rhode Island, Rider, Robert Morris, Rowan, RPI, Saint Francis U, Shippensburg, South Carolina, St. Joseph's (Pa.), Swarthmore, TCNJ, Towson, VCU, VMI, and Wesleyan will be the Bulls' competitors on Friday.
Senior Riley Jones has had an exceptional start to her season with two top-three finishes, just like the team that has finished third and second this season. Junior Alexia Hecico has also had a great start to the season with two top-10 finishes. Lily Meek and Jade Dennis have given the Bulls depth with their finishes. Freshmen Chloe Freeland, Alexandra Cowley and Heidi Eberhardt have had solid starts to their collegiate careers
