
Bulls Host Miami (OH) In MAC Opener This Weekend

BUFFALO, NY – Fresh off a 7-5 performance in non-conference play, the University at Buffalo volleyball team returns to Western New York this weekend, as they host Miami (OH) for a pair of matches to begin Mid-American Conference action. Friday's match will begin at 6pm, while Saturday's contest will start at 4pm.
UB went 2-1 last weekend at the Quest For The Crown on the campus of Old Dominion. For the second straight week, the Bulls swept the MAC East Player of the Week awards as Emma Gielas was named MAC East Offensive Player of the Week and Maria Futey was named Defensive Player of the Week. For the second straight week, Mandy Leigh earned Setter of the Week honors. In all, six different Bulls have been honored by the MAC.
Milla Malik continues to lead the Bulls offensively with 170 kills, averaging 3.62 per set, third best in the league. Gielas is also averaging over 3.0 kills per set and she is tied for sixth in the league in hitting percentage. Sophomore Olivia DeBortoli is third in the MAC in hitting percentage at .360.
Leigh is averaging 9.72 assists per set, which is sixth in the league. Her highlight match came against Radford where she had 58 assists in four sets, tied for the fifth most in the nation in four-set match.
Futey leads the Bulls with 132 digs, one of three players with 100 or more digs, all freshmen. Hannah Jacoby has 125 digs and Leigh has 109. DeBortoli leads UB and is seventh in the MAC in blocks per set at 0.93.
Miami (OH) enters the weekend with a 2-8 record, having lost four straight. The RedHawks have picked up wins over Charleston and Howard. It's a young Miami team that features seven freshmen on the squad. Sophie Riemersma leads them with 86 kills, while Gaby Harper has 84. Gracie Norris leads the team with 161 assists.
Defensively, Harper has 110 digs and Brooke Cirigliano adds a team-high 0.74 blocks per set.
