
Three Bulls Named United Soccer Coaches College Player Award of Distinction Recipients

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University at Buffalo women's soccer seniors Marcy Barberic and Gianna Yurchak and sophomore Payton Robertson were named United Soccer Coaches College Player Award of Distinction recipients, as announced by the organization earlier this week.
The trio of Bulls were among 85 Division I players honored and Buffalo is one of just two schools from the Mid-American Conference on the list.
Barberic, a communication major with a 3.227 GPA, had a historic season for UB in her senior campaign as she became the first player in school history to be named Second Team All-American. The MAC Offensive Player of the Year also earned All-Midwest region honors for the second time after being named to the second team in 2019. The Grand Island, NY native led the Bulls offense with nine goals and an assist on a team-best 39 shots while starting all eight games for UB this season. She led the nation in shots on goal per game (2.88) while also leading the MAC and ranking third in the nation in goals per game (1.2) and second in shots per game (4.88). She also ranked in the top 40 nationally in points per game (2.38), total goals (9), game-winning goals (3) and total points (19). Barberic is now ninth in program history in career goals (23) and total points (59). Off the pitch, Barberic earned Academic All-MAC honors for the third straight season.
Yurchak graduated with a degree in occupational therapy and currently maintains a 3.948 major in graduate school. She earned All-East Region scholar honors after earning Academic All-MAC honors for three straight seasons. On the pitch, Yurchak was named Second Team All-MAC for the first time in her career. The senior captain was second on the team in points (10), recording three goals and four assists in seven starts this season. For her career, she has recorded 12 goals, 10 assists, 34 points and 81 total shots in 64 games.
Robertson was one of five Bulls to start all eight games as a sophomore. She was a mainstay in the midfield for the Bulls, taking six shots while helping the UB backline secure four clean sheets on the season while holding opponents to a 0.59 goals-against average. Off the pitch, the Toronto Ontario native holds a 3.974 GPA while majoring in business administration.
United Soccer Coaches is committed to extending opportunities for its college members to recognize their significant players and contributions to their programs. In order to be considered for this newly created award, players must have achieved quality performance on the field, represented the highest ideals of team leadership, exhibited quality character attributes including sportsmanship and respect for teammates, opponents , officials and the game in general and made other significant contributions to the benefit of their program and the community.
