
Bulls Set for NCAA East Region Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Region Championships will begin tomorrow with the first event beginning at 1:30 p.m. The Bulls flew down to Florida yesterday morning. The four qualifiers from the University at Buffalo include Brandon Burke, Caleb Nickens, Jonathan Surdej and Sam Wray.
Burke will be competing in his second NCAA Championship this academic year as he earned All-American honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. The Mid-American Conference (MAC) Indoor and Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year will compete in the high jump on Friday, May 28 at 1 p.m.
The hammer throw is the first event at the Championships. Nickens will make his NCAA Championship debut as the hammer throw is set to begin Wednesday, May 26 at 1:30 p.m.
Surdej will compete in the shot put on Wednesday, May 26 at 6 p.m. The 2021 MAC outdoor shot put champion makes his NCAA debut and looks to carry the momentum from the MAC Championships in Jacksonville.
After sneaking into the NCAA Championships after a medical scratch, Wray makes his Championship debut in the discus. The discus throw will take place on Friday, May 28 at 1:30 p.m.
To qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., only the top-12 in their respective event will advance.
