Nickens and Surdej Wrap Up Season at NCAA East Regionals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. β The 2021 NCAA Division I Track & Field East Regional Championships began on Wednesday afternoon. The University at Buffalo track and field team had two Bulls take part in the day one events.

Caleb Nickens started things off in the hammer throw. The sophomore thrower hurled a distance of 58.01-meters (190'-4"). Nickens finished in 39th place in the NCAA East Region. The sophomore gained valuable experience as he finished the season with a personal-best mark of 199'-10" and ranks third all-time in the UB history books. The 2021 Mid-American Conference Outdoor shot put champion Jonathan Surdej qualified for the shot put. After fouling on his first two attempts, the third was money. Surdej launched a throw of 16.88-meters (55'-04.75"). He finished 39th in the NCAA East Region as he came in ranked 44th in the event. Complete shot put results can be found here.

Brandon Burke and Sam Wray will participate in the high jump and discus throw, respectively, on Friday. Burke's event will begin at 1 p.m. with Wray's discus starting at 1:30 p.m.
