
Bulls Fall To Central Michigan, 3-0

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team concluded its two-match series with Central Michigan on Friday afternoon with the Chippewas taking the contest, 3-0.
The Chippewas won the match 25-22, 25-23, 25-14 as CMU hit .274 compared to .205 for UB. Like yesterday it was a competitive contest, including in each of the first two sets.
In the first set, Central Michigan would pull out to a 20-14 lead late, but the Bulls scored four straight to pull within 20-18, forcing the Chippewas into a timeout. Kills from freshman Emma Gielas kept UB within two points two more times before CMU took the set, 25-22.
The Bulls trailed 14-11 in the second set, when a pair of kills from senior Lexi Nordmann contributed to a 4-0 run, which pulled UB ahead 15-14. CMU would regain the lead at 24-21, but the Bulls scored two straight to pull within one, however a kill from Central Michigan's Savannah Thompson ended the set.
The third set was all Central Michigan as the Chippewas used five straight points midway through the set to take a 19-11 lead, en route to the 25-14 set win.
Gielas and fellow freshman Milla Malik led the Bulls with 11 kills each as Gielas hit .381 as she had just three errors. Most of her damage came in the first set when she had eight kills.
Nordmann finished with nine kills and just one error, hitting .471, while sophomore Courtney Okwara hit .500 with six kills on 10 swings. Junior Kyndal Bacon finished with 38 assists.
Defensively, sophomore Jenna Sonnenberg had a team-high 14 digs, while Malik finished with nine and Bacon had eight. Gielas added seven more.
Buffalo will return to the road for a four-match road trip beginning on Thursday at Eastern Michigan.
