
Bulls Drop MAC Opener To Miami (OH), 91-81

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team fell in the Mid-American Conference opener on Wednesday afternoon as the Bulls lost to Miami (OH), 91-81.
The Bulls were undone by 17 turnovers as well as shooting just 19-32 from the free throw line. UB had three players all over 20 points on the day, led by 26 points and 17 rebounds from senior Josh Mballa. Ronaldo Segu added 21 points and seven dimes, while Jeenathan Williams finished with an even 20.
Tied at 27-27 in the first half, the Bulls scored 11 straight points over a three minute period as UB took its largest lead of the game at 38-27 with 2:21 left. UB continued to lead by 11 with 1:22 remaining, but Miami would score the final four points of the half as UB went into the break with a 40-33 lead.
However, in the second half the RedHawks were deadly from three-point range, hitting seven triples and shooting 58.3% from behind the arc.
Miami (OH) used a 14-4 run early in the second half, cutting the Buffalo lead down to just one with 14:48 left. Miami (OH) went on to take a 71-67 lead with 5:55 left, but the Bulls would again take the lead following a three from Williams and a second chance layup from Mballa.
It would be the final lead for UB as Miami knocked down back-to-back threes to take the 79-75 lead. The RedHawks drained their free throws late, leading by as many as 11 and Miami went on to take the 91-81 decision.
Mballa added five blocks to his performance that included the 26 points and 17 rebounds, 11 of which came on the offensive end. In addition to the three 20-point scorers, senior Keishawn Brewton finished with five points and tied his career high with four assists.
Tra'von Fagan was one of four players with two points, but he did add nine rebounds.
With a scheduling change announced on Wednesday afternoon, the Bulls will now continue MAC play at Akron on Saturday afternoon.
