Swimming & Diving Begin Season on Saturday Afternoon
10/22/2021 1:09:00 PM | Swimming and Diving
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's swimming & diving team (0-0, 0-0 MAC) will dive into the 2021-22 season on Saturday, Oct. 23 as they host Cornell University (0-0, 0-0 Ivy League). The dual meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in the Alumni Arena Natatorium. Due to Ivy League rules, this meet will not be scored.
The last time the Bulls were in the pool, they hoisted the Mid-American Conference trophy for the first time in program history. As the 2021 MAC Championship banner hangs over the pool in Alumni Arena, the Bulls will aspire to add to that legacy this season. Head Coach Andy Bashor returns for his 16th season at the helm with Russ Dekker back for his seventh year as diving head coach. Morgan Bullock was added to the staff in the summer joining the staff after previously coaching at Niagara University.
NEWCOMERS
The Bulls welcome eight freshmen to the program this year as Sawyer Bosley, Taeghen Brezovski, Kaylee Donovan, Presley Dorsett, Marialis Kwak, Abigail Malmstrom, Amanda Neeb, and Alicia Wood join the team. The freshmen class is the second largest class on the team behind the juniors.
RETURNERS
The team brings back 19 returners for the 2021-22 season. Veteran swimmer Jillian Lawton comes back as a graduate student returning for her fifth year. Seniors Patricia Arceri, Julia Boswell, Toni Naccarella, and Katie Pollock have their eyes sets on finishing on top of the podium once again. The junior class is a whopping 10 student-athletes. Elinor Duley, Clarice Fisher, Victoria Franz, Lena Li, Madison McDonough, Michaela Morgus, Maddy Rogan, Kaley Skarren, Allison Stockwell, and Jaidyn Wolfe all bring major depth to the impressive roster. The sophomores are small, but mighty as there are only four second-year student-athletes: Kasey Keaney, Mia Naccarella, Marij van der Mast, and Grace Wood.
