
Bulls Suffer First Conference Defeat

BOWLING GREEN, OH – The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped their first Mid-American Conference match of the season, falling at Bowling Green, 3-0. With the loss, UB is now 9-6 on the season and 2-1 in league play.
The Falcons took the match 25-23, 25-14, 25-19 as Bowling Green outhit the Bulls, .274 to .190.
UB trailed 10-6 in the opening set, but then the Bulls began to fight back. UB went on a 9-3 run, capped off on a block from Olivia DeBortoli and Milla Malik as Buffalo went ahead 15-13. Tied at 15-15, the Bulls scored four straight points, including a pair of kills from DeBortoli, to take the 19-15 lead. UB would manage to go up 23-19, but the Bulls wouldn't be able to score again as Bowling Green scored the final six points to take the set.
The Falcons road the momentum of the late first set run to take the second set, 25-14. In the third set, the Falcons led for nearly the entire time, but the Bulls had a run in them as service ace from senior Paige Beck tied the set up 17-17. That was one of two service aces from Beck on the evening. However, BG scored the next five points en route to a 25-19 victory.
Courtney Okwara and Stacia Gollogly led the Bulls with eight kills each, while Malik and DeBortoli chipped in seven. DeBortoli did not have an error in the match as she hit .583. Mandy Leigh had three kills, while dishing out 27 assists.
Defensively, Hannah Jacoby led Buffalo with 11 digs, while Malik added 10 and Leigh, Kyndal Bacon, and Maria Futey each finished with nine. The Bulls registered five total blocks, led by four from Okwara.
The Bull and Falcons close out their two-match series tomorrow at 5pm in Bowling Green. The match will air on ESPN3.
