BUFFALO, NY – After a quick turnaround, the University at Buffalo women's basketball team travels to Big 4 foe Canisius on Sunday afternoon for a clash with the Golden Griffins at the Koessler Athletic Center. • The University at Buffalo women's basketball team takes on Big 4 foe Canisius at the Koessler Athletic Center on Sunday afternoon.
• The Bulls concluded their Virginia road trip with a 61-55 loss at VCU on Thursday.
• This will be the 48th meeting between Buffalo and Canisius with the Golden Griffins owning a 30-17 series edge. UB has won the past seven meetings, most recently a 71-55 victory at Alumni Arena last season.
• The Bulls return nine scholarship players from last year's squad that won 19 games. Buffalo has now won 17+ games in seven straight seasons, a first for the Bulls since joining the MAC in 1998.

GAME 2 RECAP: VCU
• The University at Buffalo women's basketball team went 1-of-10 from the floor over the final five minutes and thirty seconds as the Bulls fell at VCU 61-55 on Thursday evening at the Seigel Center.
• VCU ended the game on a 13-2 run and took advantage of a Buffalo team that was whistled for 22 fouls, sending the Rams to the foul line 26 times, including in the pivotal final minute as four of the last six points of the game were scored from the charity stripe.
• Fair was the lone Bull to score in double figures as she had a game-high 27 points to go along with nine rebounds, five assists and four steals. Hall and Christie recorded eight points each.
PREVIEWING CANISIUS
• The Canisius Golden Griffins finished the 2019-20 season with a 5-25 overall record and a 4-16 MAAC mark.
• This is the season-opener for Canisius and the only non-conference game in which the Griffs will compete this season.
• Canisius returns just two starters and seven letterwinners from last year's team.
• Anndea Zeigler was named to the 2020-21 Preseason All-Big 4 Women's Second Team. She has played in 60 career games as a Golden Griffin, where she averaged 5.5 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.
• Scott Hemer was named head coach on April 23, 2018. In his first season at the helm, Hemer coached the Golden Griffins to a 9-9 conference record, the program's first .500 or better showing in league play since the 2008-09 season. Prior to Canisius, Hemer spent 11 seasons as head coach of the Geneseo women's basketball program.
UNPRECEDENTED TIMES
• Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this season is unlike any other. The pandemic, which caused the cancellation of conference and national tournaments last season, has altered the way student-athletes and coaches get ready for each game.
• It is suggested and widely implemented that, all Tier 1 individuals, which include student-athletes, coaches, and day to day support staff, must test for COVID-19 at least three times a week on non-consecutive days. At Buffalo, this test is a rapid antigen test. Should those tests come back inconclusive, a second PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test will be administered.
• In addition to the testing done by players, all travel party members must wear face coverings for the duration of any and all bus trips. Face coverings are required for the travel party at all times unless in your own room or on the playing court during the game
PRESEASON PRAISE
• With the elimination of divisions for the 2020-21 season, the 12 teams were ranked from top to bottom led by Central Michigan who received 10 first place votes and 142 points. The Bulls were picked to finish fourth with 108 points behind Ohio (128) and Ball State (119).
• Buffalo also earned one vote to win the MAC Tournament Championship, while Ohio earned 10 votes and Northern Illinois garnered one vote.
• Dyaisha Fair earned a spot on the preseason All-MAC First Team for the first time in her career while redshirt senior Summer Hemphill landed on the All-MAC Second Team.
SCHEDULE BREAKDOWN
• Buffalo is scheduled to host 11 regular season contests inside Alumni Arena this season, including one non-conference matchup and ten MAC games.
• Due to restrictions surrounding Covid-19 this group will play a condensed non-conference schedule, highlighted by a trip to Purdue in December. The Bulls will play four of their first five games on the road with trips to James Madison, VCU, Canisius and Purdue before closing out the non-conference play with a home game against Big 4 foe St. Bonaventure.
• Conference divisions have been removed for this season as well as first-round MAC Tournament games. The top eight schools at the end of conference play will qualify for the 2021 Mid-American Conference Tournament.
NON-CONFERENCE DOMINATION
• The Bulls have been dominant in the non-conference portion of their schedule as they have posted seven straight winning seasons.
• Buffalo has recorded at least seven non-conference victories in each season since 2013-14, including nine wins over Power 5 opponents.
• Over the past five plus seasons, UB owns a 45-11 (.804) record against non-conference opponents.
BULLS BREAKDOWN
• The Bulls return nine letterwinners and four starters from last year's squad that posted a 19-12 overall record and a 9-9 conference mark.
• The Bulls, who finished third in the MAC East and sixth overall, made their sixth straight appearance in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals, defeating Miami (OH) in the first round before falling to Kent State in the quarterfinals.

BULLS LOOK TO REPEAT
• With last season's Mid-American Conference tournament being canceled due to COVID-19, the Bulls are the defending MAC champions. UB has its sights set on the MAC Tournament title once again this season and if they are successful, it would be the first time in program history that the Bulls win back-to-back MAC championships.
• In order to get to that point, the Bulls will play in a MAC that has a new look. The conference did away with East and West divisions and instead, all 12 programs will be seeded from top to bottom. The MAC also increased their league schedule to 20 games this year, the most UB has played in conference play since joining the league. First round campus site games have also been eliminated, with the top eight teams going straight to Cleveland.

• Junior forwards Adebola Adeyeye and Keowa Walters will look to take on a bigger role this season after posting career highs in several categories last season.
• A season ago, Adeyeye made huge strides for UB down low as she averaged career-highs in points (5.9 ppg), rebounds (6.6 rpg), blocks (0.5 bpg) and field goal percentage (55%).
• The Brampton, Ontario native led the Bulls in rebounding 13 times while posting a team-high two double-doubles on the season.
• Walters also made an impact as a sophomore as she averaged career-highs in points (5.2 ppg), rebounds (4.8 rpg), blocks (0.4 bpg) and field goal percentage (59.3%).
• Walters ranked third on the team with 87 offensive rebounds and second with 194 total rebounds.
FRESH FACES
• The 2020-21 Bulls welcome four newcomers to a squad that won 19 games a season ago.
• Of the four newcomers, two came to Buffalo via transfer. Jazmine Young transferred from Tennessee State where she led the Tigers in scoring while Ramatoulaye Keita transferred from Robert Morris.
• The UB roster also features two true freshmen who will be looking to make an immediate impact in their rookie campaigns.
• Cheyenne McEvans is a 5'10" combo guard who comes to Buffalo from Southfield, Michigan where she earned First Team All-State honors, while helping to lead Southfield A&T High School to the state Final Four twice. Off the court, McEvans was the valedictorian of her high school class.
• Sophia Ojhammar is a 5'9" guard from Solna Sweden. Ojhammar won a gold medal at the 2018 U17 Swedish Championship and was awarded MVP honors after scoring 24 points in the championship game. She competed at the 2017 Baltic Sea Basketball Cup as part of the U16 team, spent time with the U17 national team and also trained with the U18 national team in the summer of 2018.

• Head coach Felisha Legette-Jack became Buffalo's all-time winningest coach in Buffalo women's basketball history on January 25, 2020 with UB's win at Kent State, her 156th win in Buffalo.

ANOTHER 19+ WIN SEASON

CLOSING TIME
• The Bulls have been extremely effective closing out games over the last five plus years, winning 120 of their last 126 games (.952) when leading or tied with five minutes left, including 87 of their last 92.
CLEANING THE GLASS
• One of the keys to the Bulls success last season was their ability to rebound the basketball. The Bulls led the MAC and finished the season ranked 20th in the nation in rebounds per game (42.4).
• The Bulls also limited their opponents to just 38.3 rebounds per game and were 15-6 when winning the rebounding battle.
CREATING SECOND CHANCE OPPORTUNITIES
• The Bulls continued to find success on the offensive glass last season as they are averaged a MAC-best 15.6 offensive rebounds/game, while averaging 13.5 second chance points off those offensive boards.
• Buffalo grabbed at least 10 offensive rebounds in 29 of 31 games last season, including a season-high 23 against CCSU (11/5) and Akron (2/19).

• Since Legette-Jack took over before the 2012-13 season, the Bulls hold a 76-34 (.690) record at home across 110 contests.

• The wins continue to pile up for the Bulls under head coach Felisha Legette-Jack as they produced their fifth straight 19+ win campaign in 2019-20.
• Buffalo has now won 17+ games in seven straight seasons, a first for the Bulls since joining the MAC in 1998.
• Buffalo posted 10 victories last season by double-digits, including a season-high 18 point victory, 73-55, over American on December 1, 2019.
TRIO OF CAPTAINS NAMED FOR 2020-21 SEASON
• Head coach Felisha Legette-Jack announced three captains for the 2020-21 season.
• After a team vote, the Bulls named Summer Hemphill, Hanna Hall and Dyaisha Fair as team captains.
• The three captains have been a part of three straight 19+ win seasons.
CLOSING TIME
• The Bulls have been extremely effective closing out games over the last five plus years, winning 120 of their last 126 games (.952) when leading or tied with five minutes left, including 87 of their last 92.
CLEANING THE GLASS
• One of the keys to the Bulls success last season was their ability to rebound the basketball. The Bulls led the MAC and finished the season ranked 20th in the nation in rebounds per game (42.4).
• The Bulls also limited their opponents to just 38.3 rebounds per game and were 15-6 when winning the rebounding battle.
CREATING SECOND CHANCE OPPORTUNITIES
• The Bulls continued to find success on the offensive glass last season as they are averaged a MAC-best 15.6 offensive rebounds/game, while averaging 13.5 second chance points off those offensive boards.
• Buffalo grabbed at least 10 offensive rebounds in 29 of 31 games last season, including a season-high 23 against CCSU (11/5) and Akron (2/19).
TURNING THEM OVER
• Ever since taking over the program eight seasons ago, head coach Felisha Legette-Jack has prided herself on
having a team committed to defense and that is no different this season.
• The Buffalo defense forced an average of 16.4 turnovers/game last season.
• The Bulls also averaged 8.7 steals/game while netting an average of 15.2 points/game off of opponent's turnovers.
HOME SWEET HOME
• Since Legette-Jack took over before the 2012-13 season, the Bulls hold a 76-34 (.690) record at home across 110 contests.
• Over the last three seasons, UB is 29-8 at Alumni Arena. The 2017-18 team finished a perfect 12-0 at home overall and 9-0 in conference play.
• On the flip side, Legette-Jack's Bulls are 87-64 (.576) on the road or on neutral ground during her tenure.

• The Bulls have always been known for their defense but over the last few seasons the UB offense has come alive, leading the Bulls to success on the national stage in back-to-back seasons.
• The Bulls are tough to beat when they score 80+ points as they own a 36-6 record over the past three plus years when doing so.
• The Bulls posted 80+ performances on seven occasions last season, coming away with victories in six of those games.

• Over the last four plus seasons, UB is 70-8 when holding their opponents to under 70 points and 48-0 when holding opponents to 59 points or less.
