BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's basketball team will wrap up their two-game road trip in the Old Dominion state at VCU on Thursday evening. TODAY'S STORYLINES
• The University at Buffalo women's basketball team concludes their Virginia road trip on Thursday evening at VCU.
• The Bulls opened up their 2020-21 campaign with an 80-64 win at James Madison on Monday and have now won five straight season openers under head coach Felisha Legette-Jack.
• This is the first meeting between the Bulls and Rams. Buffalo is 23-32 all-time against teams from the Atlantic 10 Conference.

GAME 1 RECAP: JAMES MADISON
• Behind career highs of 24 points and eight three pointers from senior Hanna Hall and a game high 29 points from sophomore Dyaisha Fair, the University at Buffalo women's basketball team defeated James Madison 80-64 in the season opener at the Atlantic Union Bank Center on Monday.
• Fair led all scorers with 29 points to go along with six rebounds and nine assists. Hall set career-highs in points (24), three pointers made (8) and field goals made (8) while also grabbing five boards. Freshman Cheyenne McEvans also scored in double figures with 12 points in her first game as a Bull.
• Buffalo shot just under 49% from the floor in the opening half and 45% from deep while also scoring 20 points off of 16 JMU turnovers. The 58 first half points were the most scored by UB since they scored 61 against Central Michigan on February 16, 2019.
PREVIEWING VCU
• The VCU Rams enter Thursday's contest with a 1-2 overall record after dropping a pair of contests to Arizona State and Stephen F. Austin over the weekend in Tempe, Arizona.
• The Rams finished the 2019-20 season with a 20-12 overall record and went 13-3 in A-10 play, advancing to the finals of the A-10 championship for the second straight year.
• VCU was picked to finish first in the A-10 preseason poll for the second consecutive season, earning 10 of 14 possible first place votes in the poll.
• The Rams return five of the top six scorers from last season led by Tera Reed and Taya Robinson who have been the Rams' top two scorers each of the past two seasons

• With the elimination of divisions for the 2020-21 season, the 12 teams were ranked from top to bottom led by Central Michigan who received 10 first place votes and 142 points. The Bulls were picked to finish fourth with 108 points behind Ohio (128) and Ball State (119).
• Buffalo also earned one vote to win the MAC Tournament Championship, while Ohio earned 10 votes and Northern Illinois garnered one vote.

• The Brampton, Ontario native led the Bulls in rebounding 13 times while posting a team-high two double-doubles on the season.

• Of the four newcomers, two came to Buffalo via transfer. Jazmine Young transferred from Tennessee State where she led the Tigers in scoring while Ramatoulaye Keita transferred from Robert Morris.
• The UB roster also features two true freshmen who will be looking to make an immediate impact in their rookie campaigns.
• Cheyenne McEvans is a 5'10" combo guard who comes to Buffalo from Southfield, Michigan where she earned First Team All-State honors, while helping to lead Southfield A&T High School to the state Final Four twice. Off the court, McEvans was the valedictorian of her high school class.
• Sophia Ojhammar is a 5'9" guard from Solna Sweden. Ojhammar won a gold medal at the 2018 U17 Swedish Championship and was awarded MVP honors after scoring 24 points in the championship game. She competed at the 2017 Baltic Sea Basketball Cup as part of the U16 team, spent time with the U17 national team and also trained with the U18 national team in the summer of 2018.

• One of the keys to the Bulls success last season was their ability to rebound the basketball. The Bulls led the MAC and are ranked 20th in the nation in rebounds per game (42.4).

CREATING SECOND CHANCE OPPORTUNITIES
• The Bulls continued to find success on the offensive glass last season as they are averaged a MAC-best 15.6 offensive rebounds/game, while averaging 13.5 second chance points off those offensive boards.

ANOTHER 19+ WIN SEASON
• The wins continue to pile up for the Bulls under head coach Felisha Legette-Jack as they produced their fifth straight 19+ win campaign in 2019-20.
• Buffalo has now won 17+ games in seven straight seasons, a first for the Bulls since joining the MAC in 1998.
• Buffalo posted 10 victories last season by double-digits, including a season-high 18 point victory, 73-55, over American on December 1, 2019.
TRIO OF CAPTAINS NAMED FOR 2020-21 SEASON
• Head coach Felisha Legette-Jack announced three captains for the 2020-21 season.
• After a team vote, the Bulls named Summer Hemphill, Hanna Hall and Dyaisha Fair as team captains.
• The three captains have been a part of three straight 19+ win seasons.
CLEANING THE GLASS
• One of the keys to the Bulls success last season was their ability to rebound the basketball. The Bulls led the MAC and are ranked 20th in the nation in rebounds per game (42.4).
• The Bulls also limited their opponents to just 38.3 rebounds per game and were 15-6 when winning the rebounding battle.
CREATING SECOND CHANCE OPPORTUNITIES
• The Bulls continued to find success on the offensive glass last season as they are averaged a MAC-best 15.6 offensive rebounds/game, while averaging 13.5 second chance points off those offensive boards.
• Buffalo grabbed at least 10 offensive rebounds in 29 of 31 games last season, including a season-high 23 against CCSU (11/5) and Akron (2/19).
CLOSING TIME
• The Bulls have been extremely effective closing out games over the last five plus years, winning 119 of their last 125 games (.952) when leading or tied with five minutes left, including 86 of their last 90.
TURNING THEM OVER
• Ever since taking over the program eight seasons ago, head coach Felisha Legette-Jack has prided herself on having a team committed to defense and that is no different this season.
• The Buffalo defense forced an average of 16.4 turnovers/game last season.
• The Bulls also averaged 8.7 steals/game while netting an average of 15.2 points/game off of opponent's turnovers.
PAINTING A NEW PICTURE
• The Bulls found success in the paint once again last season as they won or tied the battle in the paint in 26 of 31 contests, going 18-8 in those games. UB averaged 32.6 points/game in the paint.
RUNNING WITH THE BULLS
• Buffalo recorded eight or more fast break points in 24 of 31 games last season, outscoring opponents 376-260 in transition.
• Over the past four seasons, the Bulls have won or tied the fast break category in 107 of 131 games, including 82 of their 93 wins.

• Since Legette-Jack took over before the 2012-13 season, the Bulls hold a 76-34 (.690) record at home across 110 contests.
• Over the last three seasons, UB is 29-8 at Alumni Arena. The 2017-18 team finished a perfect 12-0 at home overall and 9-0 in conference play.

• Over the last four plus seasons, UB is 70-7 when holding their opponents to under 70 points and 48-0 when holding opponents to 59 points or less.
