BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team will begin its 2020 spring season this weekend as the Bulls face a pair of Ivy League opponents beginning on Friday at Brown and concluding on Sunday at Princeton.
The Bulls had a strong fall season in which four players finished with at least six victories in singles play, led by junior Valdemar Holm, who went 7-4 during the fall. Seniors Hao Sheng Koay and Vilhelm Fridell each won six matches, while junior Matthew Johnson also added six.
Overall, Buffalo went 39-29 in singles action and 21-13 in doubles play during a fall season that saw the Bulls play some of the top competition not only in the region, but across the nation with trips to the Silverado Invitational, the Farnsworth Ivy-Plus and the ITA Northeast Regionals.
Brown is 2-0 on the season with wins over Quinnipiac and Binghamton this past Sunday. This will be the first time that Buffalo and Brown meet in dual action since Jan. 22, 2017 when the Bulls defeated the Bears, 5-2.
Princeton has yet to play a dual match this season and Sunday's contest against Buffalo will be its first of the spring. The Bulls are still looking for their first ever win over Princeton in dual competition but have played the Tigers tough each of the last few years.
Following this weekend's action, the Bulls will play in front of the home fans for the first time next Saturday (2/1) when they host Niagara at 10am at Miller Tennis Center.
